Beast Master (Ranger Kit)

The Beast Master is a wanderer, uncomfortable in civilized lands. He maintains a natural affinity for animals — they are his friends and comrades-in-arms — and the Beast Master has a limited form of telepathic communication with them.

Advantages

  • +15% to Move Silently and Hide in Shadows.
  • May use Find Familiar to summon a pseudodragon (lawful/neutral good) or fairy dragon (chaotic good) companion.
  • 8th level: may cast Animal Summoning I.
  • 10th level: may cast Animal Summoning II.
  • 12th level: may cast Animal Summoning III.

Disadvantages

  • May not use any metal weapons (swords, halberds, war hammers, morning stars, etc.).
  • May not wear armor heavier than studded leather.

When to pick it

  • The familiar grants permanent maximum-HP at first summon — invaluable for the protagonist.
  • The metal-weapon restriction limits you mostly to clubs, quarterstaves, and slings — pick this kit for thematic play, not for combat optimisation.
