Miscellaneous Wearables¶
Beyond armor, shields, and weapons, characters can equip a range of accessories — many of them magical. Most are paper-doll slots on the inventory screen.
Amulets¶
Amulets are jewellery — sometimes magical — worn around the neck suspended from a chain. The chain that comes with an amulet generally affects its aesthetic value, not its magical properties.
Note
Only one amulet can be worn at a time.
Boots¶
Boots are normally hand-made by cobblers. Common boots are made by using a form, but good boots are designed for the foot of the individual for whom they are made. Magical boots typically grant movement, stealth, or speed bonuses.
Bracers¶
Thick bands of metal or leather strapped, belted, or tied to a character's forearm. Magical bracers commonly improve AC or grant specific protections.
Cloak¶
Cloaks can be made in every possible shape with just about every type of fabric. The most common forms are a circular piece of fabric with a hole in the centre for the head, and fabric draped from the neck connected by a chain, brooch, cord, or pins. Magical cloaks frequently grant save bonuses or special protections.
Gauntlets¶
Armoured gloves of leather, metal plates, or chain mail. Every suit of armor is assumed to include gauntlets of an appropriate type. Magical gauntlets tend to be finer, lighter, and more easily worn than normal varieties.
Kensai restriction
Kensai may not wear gauntlets or bracers.
Girdles¶
Similar to belts. Unlike belts, girdles are not used to hold up pants and dungarees but to carry pouches, scabbards, and the like. Magical girdles can boost Strength, Constitution, or specific resistances.
Helmets¶
Made of reinforced leather or metal, covering most of the head save the face and neck. Helmets protect the wearer from critical hits — see THAC0 and Attack Rolls → Critical Hits. For front-line classes a helmet is essentially mandatory.
Necklace¶
A piece of ornamental jewellery usually made of silver, gold, platinum, or other precious metal and adorned with gems. Always worn on the neck, of any length.
Rings¶
Worn on the fingers and often carry an enchantment.
Note
Up to two rings can be worn — one on each hand.
