Assassin (Thief Kit)¶
A killer trained in discreet and efficient murder, relying on anonymity and surprise to perform his task.
Advantages¶
- +1 bonus to-hit and damage rolls.
- Backstab ability reaches ×7 multiplier instead of capping at ×5. !!! note The ×7 cap is not reached until levels only attainable in Baldur's Gate II. Within BG:EE the Assassin caps at ×5 like other Thieves.
- May coat his weapon in poison once per day per 4 levels. The next hit injects the poison, dealing 1 point of damage per second for 24 seconds (3 points per second for the first 6 seconds). A successful save vs. poison limits damage to 12 points total.
Disadvantages¶
- May only distribute 15 skill points per level among thieving skills (vs. 25 for a Thief).
When to pick it¶
- A burst-damage specialist — pair high-tier backstabs with weapon poison for staggering single-hit damage.
- Limited skill points slow utility growth; the Assassin is the worst Thief at trap detection and lock picking.
