Large Swords¶
Long Sword¶
Usually called double-edged, war, or military swords. In many cases the long sword has a single-edged blade. There is no single version — long swords vary in length from 35 to 47 inches, with blades taking up as much as 40 inches of the total. Most have a double-edged blade and a sharp point at the tip. Despite the tip, the long sword is designed for slashing, not thrusting.
Two-Handed Sword¶
A derivative of the long sword. The blade is lengthened to 6 feet or more and the handle extended. Two hands become necessary to properly swing it.
For two-handed swing bonuses see Two-Handed Weapon Style.
Bastard Sword¶
Also known as the hand-and-a-half sword, named after the fact that it sits halfway between the two-handed sword and the long sword. The bastard sword has a double-edged blade and a long grip; overall length ranges between 4 feet and 4 feet 10 inches.
