Monk

Monks are warriors who pursue perfection through contemplation and action. Versatile fighters, they are especially skilled in combat without weapons or armor. Though they cannot cast spells, Monks can channel a subtle energy called ki, which allows them to perform amazing feats — most famously, the ability to stun an opponent with an unarmed blow.

Class features

  • May not wear any armor.
  • May only use weapons available to the Thief class (except two-handed).
  • May only become Proficient (one slot) in any weapon class.
  • May only become Proficient (one slot) in Single-Weapon Style; no slots in any other style.
  • Moves 2 points faster than other characters; movement rate further improves by 1 every 5 levels.
  • Starts with AC 9 at 1st level and gains an additional +1 AC every 2 levels.
  • +2 bonus to Saving Throws vs. Spell.
  • Deflect Missiles: +1 AC vs. missile attacks every 3 levels.

Unarmed combat

  • 1 unarmed attack per round, +½ every 3 levels.
  • Damage scales by level:

  • 9th level: unarmed attacks become +1 magical, with +1 to-hit and damage. Improves to +2 at level 12, +3 at level 15, +4 at level 25.

Ki abilities

  • Stunning Blow — once per day +1 use every 4 levels. All successful attacks within the next round force the target to save vs. Spell or be stunned.
  • 5th level: immune to all diseases, slow, and haste.
  • 7th level: may use Lay on Hands on himself to heal 2 hp per level.
  • 8th level: +1 Speed Factor.
  • 9th level: +1 to all Saving Throws and immune to charm.
  • 11th level: immune to poison.
  • 12th level: another +1 Speed Factor.
  • 13th level: Quivering Palm once per day — the next successful attack forces the target to save vs. Spell or die.
  • 14th level: gains 3% Magic Resistance per level (starting at 42% at 14th).
  • 20th level: immune to non-magical weapons.

  • Alignment: restricted to lawful.

  • Hit Die: d8.

  • Dark Moon Monk — followers of Shar, dark magic and deception (Frozen Fist, Blindness, Vampiric Touch, Mirror Image)
  • Sun Soul Monk — worshippers of light (Sun Soulray, Flaming Fists, Greater Sun, Sun Soulbeam)
